 The Red Hat Sophista-Kats of Okotoks, Alberta was founded September 09,2004 by Elaine Hill. After retiring from the position of school secretary where she was organized for 25 years, she decided it was time to do something disorganized for a change. She had seen articles on the Red Hat Society and thought "what a fun group". So she did some searching on the internet and found a chapter existed in the town of Okotoks. Boy, that sounded great, but after contacting them, she was disappointed to learn that they were not taking new members. Elaine was invited to a few of their outings and was encouraged to start another chapter, so she advertised in the local paper and put up a couple of posters in town and had great success. On Sept. 09/2004, a "Get To Know You Gathering" was held and had 10 Red Hat gals attend. The chapter is now up to 24 members. Thank you Queen Shirley from Rock n Roses for helping Elaine start The Red Hat Sophista-Kats!

Meet Our Royal Mascot
Miss Sallie of the Red Hat Sophista-Kats is our Chapter's Esteemed Mascot .... where the Queen goes, Sallie will be there in her Red Hat, beautiful silk Purple dress with matching shoes and handbag and a bright red boa. Now that is one classy sophisticated cat! It is with this that we came upon our name the Red Hat Sophista-Kats!
A few facts about Sallie:
Sallie was adopted from the Foothills Medical Center in Calgary in August 2004.
She inspired all of us at our first gathering in September 2004 and the Red Hat Sophista-Kats
became a registered chapter of the Red Hat Society.
